Pâté croche is an emblematic specialty of Isle-aux-Coudres, offered by Boulangerie Bouchard and others. This savory meat pie, also available as a vegetarian option, has its origins in the habits of the island's ancient navigators.
When they crossed the St. Lawrence by canoe, the pâté they shared often arrived in poor condition after the voyage. To remedy this, they came up with the idea of preparing them "all crocheted", in individual hand-sized portions, so that everyone could have one to themselves. Thus was born the delicious pâté croche.
